Village Books and Fairhaven Runners & Walkers are pleased to announce the 11th Annual  5K Run/Walk for Literacy on Saturday, June 19th at 9:00 am. Participants will enjoy a combination road-trail course, with slight grades and beautiful scenery.  The race will feature age-group awards and prizes.  There will also be a free kids’ 1/2-mile fun run at 8:30am before the 5K, beginning on the Village Green.  All proceeds from this 5K event will benefit the Whatcom Literacy Council.  Last year the event raised over $2000 for the organization.

After the race there will be good company, good food, awards, and a drawing for random prizes, all on the Fairhaven Village Green.  This 11th annual race also marks the celebration of Village Books' 30th anniversary, Fairhaven Runners and Walkers 11th anniversary, and Whatcom Literacy Council's 32nd anniversary.

As the region's premier technical running and walking store, Fairhaven Runners and Walkers informs and inspires people pursuing running and walking lifestyles.  Building community one book at a time, Village Books provides books and personal service to customers from all over.

"The event is a great connection for both stores," says Village Books co-owner, Chuck Robinson. "It's a perfect opportunity for the two businesses to help a very important organization in the community."

The Literacy Run/Walk would not be possible without the generous support from these sponsors: The Colophon Cafe, Copies Now, Haggen Fairhaven Market, Great Harvest Bread Company, and the Greater Bellingham Running Club.

Race-day volunteers are needed.  Please contact Dave at Village Books or Steve at Fairhaven Runners and Walkers to volunteer.  There will be a volunteer meeting on Friday, June 18th.
