Houdini Pie is based on a true tale of 1930s Los Angeles, when a rag-tag bunch of dreamers joined a crackpot geologist to mine for mythical Hopi treasure far beneath the downtown streets. Set against a background of bootlegging, baseball and municipal skullduggery, it’s a story of the depths to which a family—and a city—will sink when hard times come knocking and there’s nothing left to lose. Paul Michel is an award winning fiction writer in Seattle. He holds an MFA from Warren Wilson College and has published stories in over two dozen journals.
